MINNEAPOLIS — For the past two years, the Twin Cities have been treated to a giant kubb party called the Kubb Krawl. On May 5, the only thing changing is the size! The third annual Kubb Krawl, co-hosted by Minnesota Kubb the St. Paul Kubb Society will once again take over various venues across Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Like in years past, the Kubb Krawl will see spots all around the cities, largely along the MetroTransit Green Line that connects Minneapolis and St. Paul. The basic idea is that teams will all start at the same place, be given a schedule unique to each team, then hop around to all of those spots throughout the day. This year, in addition to the traditional krawl, there will also be a new bike krawl. This self-propelled form of transportation allows for even more exciting kubb at venues that were previously too far from light rail. At the end of the day, both krawls will unite for a giant kubb party at Summit Brewery with live music, Summit beer, and food trucks to enjoy over the final matches of the day.
No two Kubb Krawls are the same, which is half the fun of the tournament. This year you’ll see familiar spots like The Commons Park at U.S. Bank Stadium, Marquette Plaza, and Gold Medal Park in addition to great new spots like Surly Brewing, Sociable Ciderwerks, and Draft Horse. Teams must consist of a minimum of three players and matches will be played with the U.S. National Rules. Like in years past, the registration fee includes a MetroTransit pass to be used throughout the day. If you choose to participate in the bike krawl, you are responsible for providing your own bike. You’ll also be expected to obey all traffic laws. Note that this version of the krawl is nearly 7 miles of biking, so be prepared.
The Kubb Krawl is a one-of-a-kind event and it’s different every year so this is one you won’t want to miss. Registration is now open and sure to fill up fast. Below is a video that captures the vibe at the Krawl.
