STOUGHTON, Wisc. — The Stoughton Kubb Invitational is back for 2019 at John Nygaard Virgin Lake Park on July 27. In collaboration with Sons of Norway Mandt Lodge 5-314, the Stoughton Kubb Club will host the event. For those keeping track, this tournament will be the third stop of the Cheddar Curtain Tour.
The tournament will include eight qualifying rounds of single-game matches with a 25 minute time limit. The top eight teams from qualifying rounds will be seeded into the championship bracket, where they will battle it out in best-of-three game matches with no time limit. The next 16 teams will move into a consolation bracket, where they will play one-game matches with a 30 minute time limit.
Cash prizes and trophies are up for grabs to the top finishing teams. You will want to bring your A-game as custom Viking drinking horns will be part of the awards handed out to the winners.
This year’s tournament schedule starts with check in and practice beginning at 8 a.m., followed by an all-team meeting at 8:45 and the first round of play at 9. There will be a lunch break at noon and everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the delicious food options that Sons of Norway will have for purchase.
Registration is $40 per team (two to six players) and is being handled through Kubb United’s website. Any teams with players who are all 12 years or younger can register for free by contacting Todd Fossum of Stoughton Kubb Club. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit local charities.
