KASSON, Minn. — The fifth annual Kubbing to Kick Cancer Tournament will be held June 10, 2017. It was started in 2013 in Kasson, Minnesota and is run by Dee Dee and Jason Halvorson. This tournament uses two to six person teams, seven rounds of Klassic style qualification using the U.S. National Kubb Championship® Rules. The venue is a youth football field with high grass and not a lot of shade, so players are encouraged to bring tents for cover. Last year, the 36 team tournament was won by the Kastpinnar Kings (Phil Goestouwers, Chris Hodges). This year they are hoping to reach their goal of 48 teams. Awards will be won by the top three teams in both the championship bracket and the consolation bracket. There will be a pre-tournament gathering the night before at 504 Tavern in Kasson.
Proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society. If you can’t make the event you can still help by sponsoring the event, buying a tribute king, or contributing to their relay for life team. Also, as part of their fundraising efforts, the Kubbing to Kick Cancer Tournament will be selling Lotzza Motzza Pizza, pork sandwiches, pork sundaes, chips, sodas, and baked treats.
“Kasson, is located in the center of the Midwest kubb nation. Players come from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Chaska, Des Moines, Eau Claire, Rochester, South Dakota, and Michigan. A great mix of competition and fun!” —Dee Dee Halvorson
