Your calendar might be screaming mayday because the Month of may is fully booked. All five weekends have a kubb tournament, so you’re sure to find the right fit!
Up first is the Wisconsin State Kubb Championship. This tourney at the Dells returns with a new date. It was previously held in July (prime travel time—and high rates) in the Wisconsin Dells. This new, earlier date should be a little friendlier to finding accommodations. The competition is sure to be high as teams of two from all over the Midwest battle for the title. Check out this preview article for more details.
Week two sees another tournament that made the jump from July to May (albeit a few years ago)—the Stoughton Kubb Invitational. Don’t let the name fool you, everyone is invited to partake in this one. Stoughton Kubb puts on a good time and regularly hands out some very cool trophies alongside their signature tin fish, thanks to sponsor King Oscar.
Phil Dickinson‘s “Michigan kubb retreat” got a new name last year, but was still just as much fun. The U.S. National 1v1 Kubb Championship (formerly Great Lakes 1v1 Kubb Championship) has seen some of the nation’s best kubb players compete year after year—don’t you want to be a part of that? There is on-site camping available. Check out the Facebook event for more details about camping, meals, and more.
The Illinois Kubb Championship took 2024 off to revive the Midwest Kubb Championship, but this year it’s back! Energy City Kubb has been developing a nice kubb scene in Batavia, so maybe it’s time you check it out at this tournament.
May closes out with a new kubb tournament hosted by multi-time All-American Adam Holtz. The Chetek Chain of Lakes Classic will be a minimum two player tournament with proceeds benefiting the Barron/Chetek Youth Hockey program. There’s already some big names signed up, so it’s definitely going to be a competitive tournament.
