CAMPBELLSPORT, Wisc. — The Kubbapalooza series kicks off its 2023 edition with the Ice Games on Saturday, Feb. 11. Teams of two-to-six players will battle it out on a frozen pond. The U.S. National rules, with the edition of the Neighbor Rule and 100 percent rule in will be used. Registration is closed with the maximum 16 teams reached, but you could try reaching out to Kettle Moraine Kubb and get on a the waitlist, just in case.
As is becoming commonplace with a Kubbapalooza event, there will be a new and interesting format used. While the Klassic system will still be employed to set matchups, the points for each game will be different. Instead of the normal 1 point for a win, and fractional points for a tie, leading, or trailing, the number of base kubbs will determine how many points you earn. For example, a team could win a game 6-3 (five base kubbs plus a king for the winning team; three base kubbs for the losing team). In the case of a tie, teams can each earn up to 5 points (one for each baseline kubb). Imagine the classic 10-in-play scenario that goes to time—now each of those teams walks away with something from an intense battle. This helps better reflect what happened in each game. Kubb On hopes to take a closer look at this format in the future, so stay tuned!
