MENOMONEE FALLS, Wisc. — The second annual Kubbapalooza comes back to Menomonee Park this year, on a new weekend. Kettle Moraine Kubb is hosting this three day extravaganza with two kubb tournaments, bonfires, camping, and more that’s become known to be “a knock-down good time” for kubbers of all ages and experience levels. Kubbapalooza kicks off Friday, Aug. 23 and concludes on Sunday, Aug. 25. The tournament portion of the weekend consists of The Grass Games on Saturday, followed by The Sand Games on Sunday. Although it’s not required, everyone is encouraged to play in both tournaments and camp on a group campsite to get the most out of this weekend of kubb, camaraderie, and fun.
The Friday of Kubbapalooza will have plenty of fun in store, making it worth arriving early. Players who register to camp will have access a group campsite to pitch their tent, trailer, RV, or van. Camping is recommended, but not required to partake in Kubbapalooza. On Friday evening, relax with a campfire social complete with snacks from Milwaukee Pretzel Co., craft beers and soft drinks, a corn roast, and games. Everyone is also encouraged to bring an instrument to join in on a campfire jam session and drum circle.
The Grass Games
If you’re camping for the weekend, there’ll be no need to drive anywhere as day two (Saturday) of Kubbapalooza kicks off with The Grass Games tournament on the grounds near the group campsite. Registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with the first round starting at 9 a.m. Teams of two or more players will compete in seven rounds of the Klassic system. The top eight teams will be seeded into the championship bracket, while all other teams will go into the silver bracket. Bracket play will consist of best-of-three-game matches. There will be a potluck lunch with brats and hot dogs provided by Kettle Moraine Kubb. Players are asked to please bring a dish or snack to pass. After the tournament, everyone is invited to stick around for a pizza party and refreshments, and another campfire jam session at the group campsite.
The Sand Games
Kubbapalooza continues with The Sand Games tournament on Sunday. This tournament will be held on the beach at Lannon Quarry, just a short walk from the group campsite. Registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the tournament play starts at 9:30 a.m. This tournament is a scrambler style, with teams of up to six players. A minimum of five rounds will be played and individuals will earn points to be seeded into the championship bracket, where play continues with teams of up to six players. A beach house on the premises will be open for food, restrooms, and showers available.
Grand Kubbapalooza Champions
New this year, players who play in both The Grass Games and The Sand Games will have a chance to be dubbed a Grand Kubbapalooza Champion. The top scoring male and female individuals of the overall weekend will win special prizes and have their Grand Kubbapalooza Champ jerseys retired.
