ALTOONA, Wisc. — Summer is winding down and most of the major tournaments are in the rear-view mirror, but there’s still plenty of fun, competitive kubb going on across the country. The twelfth Annual WHYS Bluegrass Festival at Lake Altoona Park in Altoona will again include a kubb tournament—combining everyone’s favorite outdoor sport with bluegrass, beer, and beaches!
Kicking off at the leisurely hour of 11 a.m. under the shady pines of Lake Altoona, the WHYS radio-hosted event is a boozy, bluesy, entertaining way to spend the day battling on the pitches against some of your friendly rivals. Drinking while drilling is encouraged, but not required. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
The tournament is limited to 16 teams. Competition begins with a four group round-robin that will determine seeding for the afternoon championship round. All morning matches and all championship bracket matches will be best-of-three games. Last year’s consolation bracket final was some of the most entertaining (if not the most skillful) fun of the day, and as a result this year’s consolation winners were promised a special prize by Eric Anderson—so be sure to stick around!
For a list of festival performers and more information, visit the Bluegrass Festival page. Festival tickets are available at whysradio.org and will also be available at the festival gate.
