MADISON, Wisc. — The weather prediction for Madison on June 3 warned of lighting storms throughout the day, but players couldn’t have been more pleased when only a light passing shower came through at mid-morning. The rest of the day was hot and sunny for the sixth annual Madison Kubb Tournament.
The event was held at Olbrich Park overlooking beautiful Lake Monona. Tournament Director Aaron Berry kept things moving smoothly. A field of 34 teams from around the Midwest competed in seven rounds using the DMK Klassic system. The top eight teams made it to the championship bracket, with the remaining teams entering one of two consolation brackets. After the first rounds, the four teams to make it into the quarterfinals were: Special Friends (Casey Anderson, Tim Motzko), Skol (Phil Dickinson, Pat Rupp), Redemption (Chad Bevers, Darren Finger) and Gorilly United (Dave Giese, Cody Glorioso).
In the semifinals, Redemption defeated Special Friends, while Gorilly United defeated Skol.
Gorilly United took game one of the finals match. Redemption played like their name and took the next two games, and in doing so, the top trophy.
In the third place game, Skol defeated Special Friends.
The finals of the tournament were live-streamed and can be viewed on the Kubb On Facebook page.
