EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — Everyone’s favorite backyard lawn game takes center stage in a new documentary premiering this spring, as “Kings of Kubb” makes its world debut in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The film, produced by Fireside Productions, will premiere April 30 at the RCU Theatre. Tickets are available online.
Directed by filmmakers Steve Dayton and B.J. Hollars, the documentary follows four elite kubb players as they chase a national title in Eau Claire—widely known among enthusiasts as the “Kubb Capital of North America.” Anyone who’s played kubb knows that the relatively simple game can turn into much more. The documentary aims a lens at rivalry, ambition and personal sacrifice it takes to compete at a high level.
Filmed between 2024 and 2025, “Kings of Kubb” captures both rising stars and seasoned champions competing for the U.S. National Kubb Championship. The filmmakers aim to answer a broader question: how a “simple lawn game” evolved into a global phenomenon.
The premiere event will include a post-screening Q&A with the filmmakers and players featured in the film.
