Hartford, Wisc. — The 2017 Kubb in the Kettle Tournament will be hosted by Kettle Moraine Kubb at beautiful Pike Lake State Park in Hartford, Wisconsin on Sept. 2. This is the fourth year that Kettle Moraine Kubb will be holding this popular tournament. This year, the tournament will be the last leg in the inaugural Cheddar Curtain Tour. The 2015 and 2016 winners, Top Guns (Darren Finger, Dave Giese), will be back again to defend their title for a third year. The Kubb in the Kettle Tournament supports local charities and organizations.
Kubb in the Kettle will be two to six person teams using the two-four-six opener and a limit of two batons in a row per person. Games will have a 25 minute time limit. In an effort to keep the tournament moving on schedule, a new rule called kubb overtime (accelerated kubb finish) will be introduced to decide winners for games going longer than 20 minutes. Kubb overtime will be used in qualifying rounds and is being considered for the quarterfinals, but will not be used in the semifinals or finals.
There is expected to be around 20 teams at this year’s tournament. After seven rounds the top eight teams will advance to the championship bracket. All remaining teams will be put in a consolation bracket. Awards will be presented to the top three teams in both brackets.
The pitches will be marked at Pike Lake State Park Friday afternoon and players are encouraged to stop by to help or play friendlies. That Friday night there will be a social gathering at a location yet to be determined.
