EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — The U.S. National Kubb Championship announced some exciting news about its twentieth anniversary tournament. They’re looking to make the biggest weekend in North American kubb even bigger. The 2027 championship will feature Kid Kubb moving to Thursday, making room for a 1v1 tournament on Friday. The main event still starts on Saturday, but the top 32 teams will advance to Sunday for the first time. This expanded number of teams means eight groups of four teams will battle Sunday morning with the top two from each group moving into a top 16 playoff bracket.
Maybe the biggest news, however, is that this year will drop the requirement that teams be made up half of American players. This means any team, from any country (or mix-and-matched) is invited to Eau Claire for the special anniversary tournament. USA Kubb has stated this change will only be for the 2027 tournament.
