Happy new year! As you settle into 2024, you’re probably wondering “when can I play kubb?” Well, January doesn’t disappoint with two kubb tournaments! First up, the Skuffle for the Shovel in Huntersville, North Carolina. Being in the South, the Skuffle doesn’t typically get snow, so it might be the perfect winter retreat for Midwesterners.
That said, this Midwest winter so far has proven to be warm and rather dry (thanks, El Niño!), so maybe the Lake Superior Ice Festival in Superior, Wisconsin is the right option for you. This one is traditionally on a frozen lake, but will the ice be ready? If not, the Lake Superior Kubb club knows how to pivot, with last year’s tournament held lake-adjacent in a parking lot. Despite the relocation, the competition and fun were still top notch.
