ALANSON, Mich. — The Great Lakes Kubb Championship will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at Windy Acres Farm in Alanson. This annual tournament is hosted by Play Yard Games and directed by Phil Dickinson. Teams will be two person minimum and all skill levels are welcome. Registration is $30 per team and is payable on the day of the event. Private message or text Phil Dickinson at (231) 330-1794 to pre-register your team.
The Great Lakes Kubb Championship will use painted lines and the 100 percent in rule. The friendly neighbor rule will also be used. Teams will play 25 minute, single game matches for eight rounds, and the top eight teams will advance to the championship bracket. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
During the lunch break, there will be a golden baton competition. This contest will have five kubbs placed on a baseline and five kubbs spaced evenly throughout the upfield. Players earn one point for every kubb knocked down and the winner will be whoever has earned the most points.
Competitors and friends are encouraged to come out on Friday night before the tournament for a free fish fry, bonfire, and plenty of kubb friendlies. This is a family friendly event targeted at all ages and skill levels. Every participant gets a custom made wooden drink holder and there will be a raffle for a variety of yard games and accessories on the day of the tournament.
If you’re from out of town, consider staying an extra day and seeing the sights on Mackinaw Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes in Traverse City, or Colonial Michilimackinac Park (landmark fort / fur trading village and reenactments).
