MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — The 2017 Kubb on the Beach tournament will be hosted by Kettle Moraine Kubb along the shores of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee on Sept. 3. This tournament will add some unique aspects to the game, as it will be a scrambler format played in the sand. Last year’s winners were Emily Jipp and Chad Bevers. The Kubb on the Beach tournament supports local charities and organizations.
This scrambler tournament will use the two-four-six opener and a limit of two batons in a row per person. It will be two person teams (that will be mixed up each round) with individuals earning points for wins. After six rounds, players’ points will be used to determine the top 16 individuals and seed them into the championship bracket. Games will have a 25 minute time limit. Awards will be presented to the top four individual players.
This year, instead of a lunch break, the tournament is aiming to finish earlier followed by a post-tournament social gathering in downtown Milwaukee. A location for that gathering is to be announced soon.
If you’re planning to play in Kubb in the Kettle the Saturday before Kubb on the Beach, the pitches will be marked at Pike Lake State Park Friday afternoon and players are encouraged to stop by to help set up or play friendlies. There will be a social gathering at a yet to be determined location on Friday night.
Kubb on the Beach is one tournament you won’t want to miss. Consider making it a whole weekend of kubb by playing in the Kubb in the Kettle tournament on Saturday. What better way to spend Labor Day weekend than with back-to-back kubb tournaments?
