EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — The fourth annual U.S. National Junior Kubb Championship was held at Eau Claire Soccer Park and welcomed 54 players on 20 teams from three different states and Canada. The weather was beautiful; the clear blue Wisconsin sky and warm temperatures made for an amazing day of kubb.
The morning began with some practice followed by some rules explanation and a group photo before group play began. Group play consisted of three matches of best of three play. The atmosphere was amazing. There was lots of high quality kubb being played along with a lot of cheering and excitement in the air. At the end of group play each of the four group winners advanced to the playoffs. Then the second place teams competed in a throw-off to advance.
Once the tournament advanced to the semi-finals the tournament was moved to the championship pitches. In the first semi-final team Kubboom Jr. played Kubb Jedi. Kubboom Jr. came away with the victory. In the second semi-final, The Three Kubbateers faced off against The Heat, with the Three Kubbateers taking the match.
In the finals, Kubboom Jr. used great seven meter play and excellent inkasting to jump to a big lead in game one. They took the game in just a few turns. In the second game, both teams were playing excellent kubb, but eventually the Kubbateers gave up an advantage line and Kubboom Jr. cleared the last two baselines and the king to take the 2017 U.S. Junior National Championship!
In the third place game the Kubb Jedi and The Heat faced off. It was a really close game between two evenly matched teams. The game went back and forth for a long time before the Kubb Jedi were able to finally knock off The Heat.
