ALANSON, Mich.—Phil Dickinson of Great Lakes Kubb will once again host the second annual Michigan 1v1 Tournament. It will be held in an area of Phil’s farm in Alanson, which he has dubbed the Windy Acres Kubb Stadium. According to Dickinson, “This year participants will find a new look to the Windy Acres Kubb Stadium. The Great Lakes Kubb club members have been hard at work this spring putting final touches to the construction.”
The tournament will feature nine rounds of the DMK system where individual players will battle against each other fighting for the top eight spots which will be seeded in a championship bracket. There will be custom-made awards and prizes. Pitches will be painted and no stakes will be used. The 100-percent-in and neighbor rules will be used. Free camping is available on site with electric and water hook-ups, if needed. This is a bring your own lunch event.
Last year’s tournament saw 14 players participate. Chad Bevers topped Evan Fitzgerald for the gold, with Phil Dickinson taking third.
Dickinson on why he started the tournament:
“There are not that many 1v1 tournaments in this country and I knew I had to establish one. I enjoy hosting this tournament, which is held on my property. This allows me the opportunity to decorate it well in advance. I want players to feel they are entering a battlefield on a king’s court.”

This tournament is a lot of fun no matter what your skill level. The camping on site is wonderful and allows you to stay and enjoy the pre and post tournament fellowship of friendly pickup games and campfires. Phil and Stormy make everyone feel welcomed and the other participants are more than willing to help the rookies and skilled alike. I had a blast last year! A recent major cancer surgery prevents me from playing this year, but I sure wish I could! Kubb on!
